The FUTSOC FUTALAN U12 Yellow boys team entered the 2017 South Florida Cup, with great anticipation and hopes of demonstrating their improvement over the course of the year…and that is exactly what transpired! The coaches were most pleasantly surprised with the vast improvement the boys had attained to date, a performance that left even parents proud and speechless!

Opening the event with a minimal 0::1 loss to an experienced Hallandale Beach FC squad, despite numerous chances that fell short of the net, our resilient squad gave a fabulous performance in attaining a 1::1 tie against the Breakers FC, in a match entirely dominated by our young squad. The lone goal was scored by Guillerme Hersbruch, on a perfectly placed through-ball by Juan Badel, who then rocketed the ball past the outstretched hands of the opposing keeper. It was a fair result for such a great match!

In the third-place match, our eager boys were paired with the same Breakers FC squad who also qualified for the semi-final level match. In this game, our boys entirely dominated play and despite numerous advances which ended in either close goals, others which did hit the crossbar or post and yet others, which were saved by the opposing keeper, the game ended in a 0::0 tie. With penalty kicks looming ahead, our boys played the round of kicks from twelve steps, with a calm and control which netted the excited team a dominant 4::1 in penalties converted (scores by Sebastian “Spicy” Lartitegui, Enrique “Kike” Eichelbaum, Juan Badel and Thomas Guttman)…for an ultimate (4::1) 1::0 final score and third place in the event. The end result in the dual age, combined group, gave our young FUTSOC boys the Championship for the U11 category of the exciting 2017 World Cup Championships.
